Founded in 2013 by John and Jane Smith, Ashomeli® has come a long way from its beginnings in a small workshop in Los Angeles, California. When John lost his job as a carpenter during the recession, he decided to follow his lifelong passion of woodworking and start his own furniture business. Jane, who has a keen eye for interior design, soon jumped on board, and together they started designing and hand-crafting custom furniture using reclaimed wood.
Word quickly spread about the Smiths’ beautiful, eco-friendly creations. They started getting more and more custom orders and realized the demand for high-quality, affordable furniture was huge. So they decided to officially launch Ashomeli® Furniture and open up their workshop and small showroom to the public.
Our Story
It wasn’t easy at first. John and Jane worked night and day filling orders, managing the business, and improving their skills and workshop. But they persevered through all the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. Within a few years, Ashomeli® Furniture really took off.
The company expanded into a large warehouse and production facility with state-of-the-art equipment. We partnered with skilled artisans and small manufacturers around the world to keep up with demand while still focusing on handcrafted quality. Our product line grew to include all styles of furniture, lighting, rugs, and home accessories.
Even with all this growth, we’ve stayed true to our roots by using eco-friendly and sustainable production methods. We’ve also kept our brand image consistent – emphasizing chic, contemporary designs merged with vintage, rustic charm.
Most importantly, John and Jane remain at the helm, closely overseeing every aspect of Ashomeli®. While we now have over 100 employees, our business feels like a family. Our team is passionate about great design and committed to the highest standards of craftsmanship and customer service.

Meet The Team
Ashomeli® is a collaborative family made up of dedicated, talented furniture fanatics including:
John Smith – Founder & CEO
John’s lifelong love of woodworking started as a child building treehouses with scrap woods in his backyard. He refined his skills over 30 years as a professional carpenter, logger, and foreman at a custom cabinetry shop.
When launching Ashomeli®, John drew upon his expansive knowledge of carpentry, joinery, and furniture construction. He now applies his experience to overseeing production, sourcing sustainable lumber, and mentoring our artisans. As CEO, John provides strategic leadership while staying true to Ashomeli’s core values.
Jane Smith – Co-Founder & Head of Design
Jane has always had an artistic flair and passionate curiosity about interior design trends. She earned a degree in interior design which led her to work for top LA furniture showrooms.
Jane handles all aspects of product design at Ashomeli®. She works closely with customers on custom pieces, translates trends into unique collections, and pushes our brand aesthetic forward. Jane’s keen eye for style combined with John’s carpentry skills are the perfect pairing.
Ryan Lee – Master Furniture Craftsman
Ryan studied studio art in college before finding his true calling in woodworking. He trained under renowned furniture makers across Asia and Europe, mastering the intricacies of carpentry, joinery, carving, finishing, and more.
As our lead craftsman, Ryan guides our artisans to construct each design with precision. He also collaborates with John and Jane on improving techniques and materials to enhance durability. Ryan takes immense pride in the quality craftsmanship of every item produced.
Eva Chen – Sustainability Manager
Eva holds a degree in environmental science and has worked tirelessly over her career to promote corporate sustainability. At Ashomeli®, she spearheads our green initiatives.
Eva thoroughly vets any new material source to ensure responsible eco-friendly practices are used. She also collaborates cross-functionally to minimize waste in our production and packaging. Eva’s diligent efforts have helped Ashomeli® become a model of sustainability.
Miguel Gonzalez – Customer Experience Manager
Miguel believes success stems from happy customers and empowered employees. He joined Ashomeli® in 2014 starting on the customer service team. Over the years, he moved into management roles guiding the entire customer experience process.
Miguel now heads a team focused on pre-sales consultation, order fulfillment, and post-purchase support. He’s enthusiastic about refining policies and training to offer 5-star service. Miguel loves bringing positivity and care to every customer interaction.

Our Unique Production Process
While we’ve grown over the years, Ashomeli® Furniture retains a handcrafted approach to producing your furniture. Each piece is made to order with care.
1. Design
Our talented design team starts by gaining inspiration from the latest trends, customer needs, and their creative instincts. They sketch, refine, and finalize furniture designs using 3D modeling software. This allows customers to visualize pieces in their actual space.
2. Prototyping
Next we create prototypes and test them rigorously. Our craftsmen build first articles while checking for any improvements needed in the materials, joinery, finishes, and ergonomics. We tweak designs multiple times until perfected.
3. Material Sourcing
We only use environmentally responsible materials including FSC certified lumber from replenished forests. Our suppliers are vetted to ensure fair labor practices and sustainable harvesting. We often upcycle lumber from old barns and buildings.
4. Production
Experienced artisans transform the final designs into reality! Using traditional joinery techniques combined with modern machinery, they carefully shape, join, and assemble each component. Custom options like engraving and finishes are added.
5. Quality Control
Each piece goes through multiple quality checks. We thoroughly inspect alignments, connections, surfaces, and functions testing weight loads. Any product not meeting our standards gets reworked or rejected.
6. Packaging
Furniture is carefully packaged using recycled and biodegradable materials to prevent damage during shipment. Our eco-friendly packaging also reduces waste.
7. Delivery
